Sounds similar prob to mine (see connected thread) poss gear box. Local freelander dealer was brill in that service guy came with me for a drive and told me that it was the gear box without charge (though he did not put it on diagnostics). He quoted me £1100 for part and £500 labour. Ouch!!

Losing power going uphill on long mway drag. Went from doing 85 to 50 with HDC light coming on. pulled into h/shoulder, turned engine off then on to find warning light gone off. Set off but very little power. On flat & down hill no issues. round town ok but slips going from 3 to 4, then again 4...

Recently bought Used freelander TD4 GS Auto and the gear box has gone. Can anyone tell me the estimated life span of this model g-box? (2002)

Hi Slob/Anyone could anyone advise me as to the expected lifespan of an auto gear box? Just purchased TD4 GS Auto and gear box has gone!! nice!
