original factory steering damper Disco I

Funny thing is though that on every website where I can find this damper, it mentions a weight of 1.8kg for the damper.... If I weigh mine, it`s just over 1.5kgs!! There`s definitively something wrong here.

original factory steering damper Disco I

Does it help mentioning that my Disco is from 1995? Maybe this could make a difference in the damper?

original factory steering damper Disco I

Ok, now, the damper has arrived..... The STC786, only it`s over 2 inches shorter then the one fitted right now... By my reckoning, it will not fit, or am I missing something!? Could it be that my Disco is modified in that area? I can hardly imagine this. Anyone?

original factory steering damper Disco I

I have found one (in Germany:crazy:) and it`s coming my way..... When I change it, can I just use a nomal wrench and my hands to tighten the nuts on the new damper? Or do I need extra power to tighten them? Rgds, Robert

    Death Wobble at 65mph...???

My 300TDI has exactly the same problem.... Having a new 'heavier' steering damper fitted soon..... Hoping really hard that this will solve the problem, cause it is getting verrrrry annoying not being able to use your car at speeds over 60mph! Robert

HELP - Dangerous Problem with Classic Range Rover

I`m very curious as to what you will find... I have a similar problem with my 300TDI. It appears only when I drive above aro. 60mph and then only when both frontwheels hit the right kind of bump in the road (it doesn`t happen with smaller bumps, only larger bumps). The steeringwheel starts...

    sha-a-a-a-a-a-k-k-k-k-k-ing!

ok, the shaking appears to be over... The steeringdamper was replaced and out of the blue, the car drives better under all circumstances! When I bought the car, I had never driver a Discovery before and only assumed that all Discoveries drove like this. But (!) after the steeringdamper has...

    sha-a-a-a-a-a-k-k-k-k-k-ing!

The more I read the article on the wheel wobble and the more I think about it, I do no think that this is my problem. The wheel wobble is a nagging problem which could worsen to a point that the car is almost undriveable. Our car was perfectly driveable until we hit a bump when all over...

    sha-a-a-a-a-a-k-k-k-k-k-ing!

My Discovery is over at the specialist right now (not that they will do much work on it these days, but still:) ). I trust that they will find the fault and will repair it (they are very entusiastic about 4x4`s and especially about landrovers). I will keep you posted on the progress! Tnx...
