I made one out of a short length of steel so it levered against the chassis for both slackening and tightening back up.

    Well I give up

I would love to try ironrite or wonder weld but they are best if used over a couple of days, My P38 is stuck on the drive no MOT and no Tax. So if I can just buy myself enough time to get the car MOT'd then review my options after that. Vougese39 Would you be able to say how much a new...

    Well I give up

I have replaced the inlet manifold, I suspect that your point about the block cracking near a bolt could be correct. That will I suspect be would mean a new block anyway.

    Well I give up

I could and I would but from what i can see a replace engine will cost £700-£1000

Yep loads of smoke, enough for me to have to consider running it when the neighbours don't have back door open or they could end up poached in their own house.

    Well I give up

As mad as this sounds the level was normal when I started the car yesterday. Today I went to check and there was still pressure in the water as I released the expansion tank cap the water overflowed and is now right at the top of the epansion tank. Yep I can leave it running for 1/2hour or...

Put the heads back on twice using new bolts and gaskets as I was not sure I had torqued them down right the first time. Anyway it is still blowing steam out of the exhaust but not using a lot...

I have had to use the unlock code before on one of my previous P38's it took me a couple of goes before I worked out what I was suppossed to do. But then again I've always had problems with my left and rights. Also are you sure you have the correct code for your car.

    Still smoking

So I have replaced the inlet manifold, using a new gasket and it is still blowing plumes of steam out of the exhaust. But not losing any water out of the expansion tank, So a sort of result. I have taken the exhaust off and the centre box is full of crap the you can hear sloshing around it...

    Still smoking

Some of the plugs showed signs of water/steam. So I took the inlet manifold off and It was obvious that at least the left-hand bank (drivers side) has wet inlet ports on the heads worse toward the back 3. I have checked the manifold for warping and the left hand side is warped by a small...
