    Where to go near Ashbourne

Hi all, I fancy getting out and having a little play in the snow tomorrow in the defender. I've not actually been out to do any proper laneing in it yet, so don't want anything too crazy! Any suggestions on spots to go out towards Ashbourne way?

Broken key to my petrol cap - help

Managed to get it sorted today! I took the key to 'John's Car Keys Ltd' on Uttoxeter New Road in Derby, and he managed to cut me a new key from the two halves. My key is apparently an old Ford ignition key?!? Anyhew - for £6 I'm up and running again - Result!

Broken key to my petrol cap - help

I tried to jam my key into a frozen petrol cap today. Unfortunately the key snapped in it! I managed to get the end out, but now I can't undo the cap as my key is in two halves. Can I just get a new key? Or must I get a new filler cap. If the latter, how do I get the current cap off?

    Scotland trip ideas

Thanks for the brilliant suggestions people! Really starting to get excited about it now. We are going end of February, so we aren't exactly expecting the weather to be great, but it should still be amazing up there. Besides, as someone once said "there is no such thing as bad weather, just...

    Scotland trip ideas

Hi all, Planning on taking my defender on a weeks trip up to Scotland (possibly the Western Isles). I have never been up that way and wondered if anyone had any suggestions on great places that I must see? We are planning on staying overnight in B&B's etc, but we are also going to be...

    Clutch Pedal only half working

I'm hoping this is an easy one! I'm not really mechanical, so forgive the noob-ness of this! My clutch pedal seems to only be working on the lower half of the travel. The upper half is still sprung, but you only feel any real resistance (and the clutch actually working) from about the...

    90 side steps

Hi Max, These are the ones I have. Picked them up at from paddocks for about £120. They did originally have silver checkerplate, but that didn't match, so I sprayed them black. Have to say that they don't add much in terms of ease getting in and out, as they are so close to the body.

    LRO Show at Billing.

So - Am I the only one that thought the show was naff then?!? Never been to one before, so drove down Saturday morning in my defender hoping for big things. I expected there to be much more of a 'show' than there was. The motorbike dude was okay, but I wanted to see some Landys putting...

    Foot spa instead of footwell!

Hi all, I recently sealed all the holes in the driver side footwell with silicone. Bad idea! I now seem to have a convenient foot spa, as my newly sealed footwell is water-tight, therefore all the water coming in form dodgy seals has nowhere to go. I have (as a temporary measure) just...

    Side awnings

Just had a quick look at that awning. There's no way that the sucker cups will hold an awning to a vehicle (especially and old Landy :)). I have achieved the same with an awning bought from an army surplus store for £10, two old tent poles, four guy ropes and two bungees. I drape the...

    Birthday weekend tweaks & upgrades

Thanks for that! I have now given the rails a good few coats of clear coat, so hopefully that will keep them looking okay for a while. Just on a side note to anyone that stumbles onto this post, the Tombraider bars aren't really very good as a stp, as they site right up against the body of the...

    I phone 4 screen

I can confirm that the screen that I got had the gauze. It isn't a difficult job IF you are used to small electronics. My screen also came with all the tools necessary to perform the task. It probably took my about 1hr30 to complete it.

    Birthday weekend tweaks & upgrades

Hi all, Just had my birthday weekend and thought I'd spend some time (& cash) on the landy Purchased: Tomb-raider style Side-steps New Door hinges Rear lap belts Sprayed the hinges black as I think with my beastie I can get away with not having them body-coloured. Fairly easy job...

    Defender Bike Rack

Hi All, I have just put a Britpart Spare Wheel Hanger on my 300tdi 90 in preparation for a bike rack going on the back. I went cheap on the bike rack (see pics) and got one that consists of two bars with bolts and washers in the end, and they basically bolt into the spare spare-wheel...

Do I need a new fan belt tensioner?

Quick update for those interested: The squeal came back after a couple of days, though not as bad. I did the penny trick (but used a washer instead as I didn't want to make such a severs adjustment, and all is now well! Been driving it for a couple of days now and no squeal. I think we may...

Do I need a new fan belt tensioner?

So - I fitted a new tensioner. Paddocks had two types - one for about £30 & one for about £50. I clearly went for the cheaper one! Seems fine so far, but I haven't really driven it yet. Let's hope the chirping doesn't come back!
