Hi all,

Just replaced the fan belt & tensioned bearing on my Defender 300tdi.

Was great wor a day, than the chirp / squeal came back!

I inspected it again today and found that I have to give the tensioner a good tap to knock it back down into it's resting place.

Does this mean that I need a new tensioner?

So - I fitted a new tensioner. Paddocks had two types - one for about £30 & one for about £50. I clearly went for the cheaper one!

Seems fine so far, but I haven't really driven it yet. Let's hope the chirping doesn't come back!

Quick update for those interested:

The squeal came back after a couple of days, though not as bad.

I did the penny trick (but used a washer instead as I didn't want to make such a severs adjustment, and all is now well! Been driving it for a couple of days now and no squeal.

I think we may have a winner!
