Hi all,

Just found an unused Castrol SLX 'LongLife III' 5w-30 in the garage.

Can I use this in my 300TDi, or Should I stop being tight and get something proper?

It wouldnt do no harm but it may be a bit thin, personally I would go 10-40 or 15-40 depenmding on mileage. As I say it will work and wont cause any problems except the oil pressure may drop when its warmed up...

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't quite understand the milage thing though?!?

Mine has done 98k (P reg) 10-40 or 15-40?

The older they get the more worn they get, you will go up to a thicker oil as it gets more worn... 10/40 will be fine for yours....

If you're consuming/burning lots of semi-synthetic 10-40, it's worth switching to a mineral 15-40. The thicker mineral oil will not escape the rings so easily so will not have to be topped up so often (and its cheaper).
