    White smoke!!

Thanks for the ideas David. The one of swapping a fresh injector around is an easy one as I have another 300Tdi with 4 good ones in it to do it with. When I slacken an injector off what should I expect to see or hear? I am really no mechanic and all this is very new to me. As far as the...

    White smoke!!

Wanagetmuddy I agree that the cam belt maybe at fault. This concerns me a lot as it was apparently changed only 5000 miles ago, I just wonder whether the job was done properly

    White smoke!!

Thanks Gary The turbo is obviously on my list to check, but mine is blowing white smoke and not black and also it is missing on what I think is one cylinder especially on start up. I have had someone also suggest that I may have a faulty injector. Has anyone got any thoughts on that?

    White smoke!!

Thanks for the info. Things have now gone a step further. When I start it from cold it is now missing and the smoke just belches out of it until it warms up slightly, enough for me to be able to move off. I have blanked the EGR valve in the hope that it may have had something to do with the...

    White smoke!!

thebiglad thanks for replying. This cylinder on the turbo comes off easy enough does it? Is it screwed on or clipped maybe. And once off is it high pressure air or water I'll need to clean it? Cheers Toad.

    White smoke!!

Thanks for the reply wanagetmuddy. Sorry to be a pain, but waste gate, where will I find that? Also when you say high pressure line, do you mean air or water. Toad

    White smoke!!

Thanks for the reply Pastmaster. Is it really all bad news? You mention MOT, well funny enough it only passed one 4 days ago. Is there not a possibility that there is a problem with the fuel feed (too much maybe) and what I'm seeing is the surplus burning off. Just an idea, but I don't know what...

    White smoke!!

Can anyone point me in the right direction. I have just done a 510 mile trip in my Discovery 300 Tdi (1994) and it ran absolutely brilliant. However I have developed a problem with white smoke coming from the exhaust. This happens at that inbetween stage of accelerating and decelerating, when...

    Gear selection.

Thanks for your input CharlesY. The gears did indeed pull ok throughout the range without any nasty noises. It still leaves me just a little unsure about the car. The car has been looked after like a baby in all other respects so can't imagine the gearbox has been abused in any way. The diff...

    Gear selection.

CharlesY Thanks for your reply. I have owned my present Discovery for the past 2 years and have had very few problems with it so really know very little mechanically about it. Therefore I'm not sure whether I would be replacing the clutch cover etc or not should I buy this other machine. I...

    Gear selection.

I have recently been looking around for a replacement 300Tdi and the first one I came across was in very nice nick, but it has a problem with its gears. I took it out for a test drive and found that although I could select gears ok on the way up through them, when it came to changing down I...

    headlights

Hi I would go along with the possibility of problems with the switch. I recently had to replace my switch stalks because I was having problems almost identical to your mates dad. I managed to pick up a complete set of stalks including the wiper stalk for £15 on Ebay. Good luck with it.

    CV Joint

cipx2, thanks for the reply. I'll see what I can do about the axle serial no. Unfortunately I have mobility problems so don't find it easy to get under cars so bear with me and I'll see if I can get my mate to oblige.

    CV Joint

Thanks for the reply Jason. My brakes do actually click in the calipers, but the noise I am getting in the front axle is far harsher and very different to the pads. By taking the rubber cap off the stub axle and counting the splines, will that save me having to dismantle completely to find...

    CV Joint

I have a 1995 dicovery 300Tdi and it requires a new N/S front CV joint. I understand that there were two different joints made for this particular year, a 10 spline and a 24 spline. I have spoken to Paddocks and even though I have my chassis no. they seem unsure as to which will fit my motor...

New Disco - some advice needed.

Sorry can't help with the locking system, but as far as the headlight washers are concerned the washers only work on my 95 300Tdi when the lights are actually switched on. Hope that helps.

rear bumper lights - what are they ?

On my 1995 300 Tdi these lights are just rear lights, not fog lights. So when I turn the lights on I see 4 rear lights, 2 on the bumper and 2 on the main light cluster. The fog lights on mine are also in the main light cluster. Hope this helps.

    Gear Box Drain Plug!

Ta for the replies lads. Also while I'm on, if the drain plug on the gear box is on the front side of the box at the bottom, then what is that hole more or less directly behind it on the underside. Mine appears to have a thread in it....should it have a plug and if so what is it for. At present...

    Gear Box Drain Plug!

A pal of mine came to remove the main gear box drain plug on my 1995 300 Tdi this morning and was unable to shift it. Thats with a spanner and a 4' extension bar. He didn't want to push it any further for fear of doing some damage. Can anyone give me a clue as to the best way of getting it to...
