I put a new fuel filter on lately and undid the bleed screw slightly to flush the air out of the system, when tightening it back up it felt to start tightening and then get slacker. I stopped in fear that it would either break off or thread the screw.

I can't find a part number for the screw alone save buying the entire housing. Do you reckon I put a little silicone around the screw to seal it? Or perhaps use some of that plumbers tape (Can't remember its name, really thin tape for wrapping around threaded screws) or should I take the screw out and see if B&Q have a similar screw? :D

What engine is it?... the filters differ or the housing does... this is Busters Guide for the 200tdi... http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f41/fuel-filter-renewal-134366.html with the 300tdi you don't touch the bleed screw, just top up new filter with fresh diesel or fire it up and don't touch anything till the fuel runs through

Its a 200tdi and its too late, I have already touched it :p

When tightening it back up it started to feel like it was slackening rather than tightening so I stopped in fear that the screw was threading. It leaks a little now when the engine is running, I am wondering what to do with it, whether to just put a little silicone around it or take the screw out and try and find a replacement.

Have a look at the guide fuel filter link in above post.... it is for your engine. It recommends replacing the washer...:)

its ptfe tape, several ideas for you .. helicoil it , drill and tap to next size. nut and bolt with copper washers and bleed via pipes if req. forget silicone it will leak :) not hard to fix once you get housing of:D

Don't suppose you have any idea what bolt size I should get if I wanna just try slamming a new nut and washer in it?

probably about m6 , but any thats close fitand not to long or you wont get filter on :)

Maybe I will just drive it to B&Q and take the bleed screw out there, then try and find something in there to fix it, hopefully its just the screw that's threaded and not the housing

I am pretty sure this is the part.....BANJO BOLT TOP OF FUEL FILTER DIESEL 1968-1990 (13H1515L)

Yeah just took the screw out now, looks fine. Will grab a new washer and some PTFE tape, see how that does before doing anything else :)

The smaller one in the center is 37H8119L... its in the parts list at the beginning of the forum :)
