Was driving me disco yesterday and reversed into a parking space and there was a slight conk sound, now the steering is lighter than before, is this cause for concern? looked under front axle with torch last night couldnt see anything broke or undone, nothing leaking and nothing catching when im driving, just seems strange that steering has gone lighter, bit weary as my two kids are usually in the car with me, any advice will be a great help thanks for reading Ian

check your steering damper on the track rod behind the front axle. also check you havnt bust a swivel bearing by lifting each front wheel and wobbling it up and down.

Get it professionally checked over - not worth risking anything else if you are carrying a couple of kids, Ian! As Tig says, could just be the damper and that aint going to cost an arm and a leg. Could be something else though!

the damper looks like a long shock absorber and is to the front of the track rods on the front axle. its easy to see.

You may have to undo one end of the steering damper and pull on it to see if there's any resistance if you cant see anything obvious.

Could also be your PAS boxes spool-valve has failed letting too much pressure through.

The damper looks like a shocker (it is a shcoker) and is behind the front axle.
