been reading up on here about fitting 200tdi into s3 and found it a great starting point to my possible next project, got a few questions that i cant seem to find a definetive answer to,

1, do the chassis mounts for the engine and box need to be moved

2. is the 2,2a gearbox stronger than the 3 gearbox

3, is it the standard props that you use from your series?

4, whats idea of changing from standard series differential to discovery ones< is it for strength or ratio or both and do the half shafts from the series go in to disco diff?

5, is the 200tdi intercooler mounted upside down the best solution to the intercooler problem

im also planning to put parabolics with pro comp +2 on it at the same time as conversion as this seems to be common also im guessing its for better handling over existing springs, can anyone recomend a good spring manufacturer as there seems to be a few companys

1. the engine mounts stay the same
2. i think the series 2 box is stronger
3. i have used the standerd props
4. the disco diffs are a higher ratio but u will need a 10 spline one unless u are going to roll the complet disco axles under it

as far as rolling the disco axles under it im guessing you can keep the brakes and hubs ect, is there any modifications required to bolt em straight on to leafs ?

engine mounts the same but could do with lifting a inch or more ,series 3 box is stronger ive built hundreds of both and 3 is definately stronger plus synchro on all gears ,std props you dont move gearbox ,disco or def or rr diffs all 3.54 ratio as compared to 4.7 a good 30% increase people ewuse early rr diffs as thgey had oil filler in diff case not all series had filler in axle case like later vehicles so if using any other diff you may need to add filler to axle case if yours hasnt one you dont need to fit intercooler i never do ,still more poiwer than youll need,i also blank oil cooler holes on filter head

do you mean you run them without the turbo or turboed with no intercooler?

Finished my 200 di transplant today, smoother, quieter, bit more grunt, everything i wanted really, pretty much a bolt in swap, i,ll post some pics when i can work out how !

perfect, are you using standard axles and diffs?

yes i,m using the standard s111 diesel diffs and axles. i have overdrive fitted, i only finished ir at 8.30 so havnt drove verry far yet but on the hill up to where we live my old smoker struggled to reach 30 mph without lots of gear changing and a fair bit of smoke, driving up ther tonite i left it in top and drove straight up. Its not a flying machine but thats not what i was after, i didnt want to risk killing the gear box or the diffs, so leaving the turbo off seamed like the ideal solution, it even meant i could use the original radiator. cheers

cantmake my mind up weather to use turbo or not some folk say everything will explode and some folk say they are ok with rr diffs,

Well i couldnt decide myself, i thought about leaving the turbo on and turning the wick down a bit, but thought once i was used to it i would just turn it back up.A lot of told me to just take it easy on the loud pedal but i had thoughts of pulling out onto a busy roundabout, give it some beans, loud bang, big pudlle, more time off the road. I think the bit extra i have will be enough, it,ll just make it that bit easier to drive everyday, and i,m hoping to get better mpg, my old 2 1/4 lump was getting about 12 to the gallon !

im converting from diahatsu to tdi so i dony have series mounts can i use the disco mounts (engine side),

I used defender mounting rubbers on my s111 brackets, i was lead to believe the 2oo engine would vibrate more than my old lump, i havnt noticed any more. I think you can use the disco mount,s but its not a bolt on job, hope this helps
