what advice ,apart from as usually to try and find something i post to have a dig at daz gave advice so did rh and crashbox

Will try adn find a longer screw driver, by chisel top edge round, do you mean stick a chisel in it and hammer it round to try and tempt it around, surely thatll just push through the casing in a ripping motion?

Balls ;) Na, im fairly sure so, i did try it both ways just to be on the safe side.. ;) :boxing:

But its such a bitch to get any sort of good contact on..
Put the screwdriver on the top most edge of the filter, where the top is rolled over the edge. Failing that, the largest pair of water pump pliers you can get around the top edge if you can get them on.

I have one of thes (halforads poro) Never failed to get a filter offf. also got strap type chain type and proper filter pliers.

yep but they tend to tangle in the mess and keep going had it once where it needing prising out of the filter once but it got the bugger off..

I actually feel sorry for you lames, I gave good advice, but as it contradicted your advice you felt the need to go off on one.
did you, or did you feel to have a dig as usual ,if it were just the occasional difference on ways of doing things it would be one thing ,but it looks and smells more like trolling

Dont let us interupt you two lovers...
Where is the OP trying to access the filter from? Might be a stupid question but stil...

Define trolling you conceited person. My advice was given from experience, all 40 years of it. The top part of a spin on oil filter is no more stronger than the wall, the rim is the strongest part. Advice given to chisel the top part with a sharp instrument like a screwdriver is wrong, by all means have a go with a blunt instrument but not a screwdriver.

except it works top part is the rim see pic and has done for many years and was also one of the last resorts i learnt as an apprentice ,concieted what do you call yourself

I call the bit that fits nearest to the engine block the rim, always has been. Experienced.

james and rob have resolved their differences and are now going to have a discussion about rimming. ;)

Well im trying to access it from below, as cant get to it any other way, cant get to the rim as no access very easily atall and no screw driver/chisel will lever it atall.. :/ hmmmm
