Oh, photos of the"stuff". I don't think there should be any. Everything should be immaculate. I use brake cleaner and an air line to clean everything after washing in kero.

if anything should be anti friction like teflon but not seen any online. (will have a google) i can see EW on them whats on other side

Just reading back through the posts , when it was running did you try it with fan belt removed to isolate any bearing probs on water pump / alternator , loose pulley wheels šŸ™

this is the worn rocker i replaced with new on mine but didn't make any real noise, maybe time to check the valve springs make sure they not broke and sit at correct height as in manual.

guess youre quite sure you have adjusted each rocker to 10thou clearance using rule of nine.
anf youve not had carb off and stuffed hole with rag (going back to my earlier problem)
your 3 conclusions are all similar and seem to solved by correct setting of valve gaps ?

ok i will double check the liner tomorrow.

The knock was there when the rocker assembly was removed, right?
Yes, but only when i held down the pushrods and spun it with a drill. where the speed became so great that i couldnt quite hold the whole assembly tight anymore.

yes i have and it did not amount to anything.

thanks for the read. seems bearing surfaced tappets do exist. though ā€œlaterā€ is a bit superficial in the thread. this is a 2a engine.

i put it at 25mm. so 0.10 inch. i just read the pic. so i DID put the lash correctly. again, maybe one just needed an extra turn….

so plan for tomorrow then will be, check the top of the cam lobes. if good, reinstall the rocker assembly and put it on 20 mills. any ideas to replicate the engine running without having to run it? probably just put the flywheel on and run it with the starter no?

i think we can rule it likely that i have one tappet which is ticking. the speed of it is so slow that its likely only one tappet.
