HI all on way home today, temp gauge shot up on my p38 2.5 BMW diesel got home checked coolent it was empty, refilled turned on engine and the water is ****ing out the bottom of the engine round about the sump area. It stops when i turn off the engine. can anyone give me some idea where it is comming from, and if so is it a diy job for the weekend.

when i worked at BM they used to be guilty of t/stat housings goin on them, if yer lucky it might jus be that

It's the clasic get yer arse in there and look chapy, light and mirror off yer wife if required, where is the water pump on that fooker, grab the pulley and see if the bearings have gone, but there is a tell tale hole on the bottom of them and thats where they leak.

Oi landy10 you still got that escort, has it got the vauxhall engine in it. I had one with the lotus in it took it out me mk2 cortina, lovely so it was.

Hi Andy,

Simply fill up with water, start the car and see where it leaks out. Your game plan can be decided after that. Big leaks are easier to find than small leaks.

As a word of advice, any issue can cause a DDE (deadly domino effect). A coolant system leak is generally not a big bother. However, overheating an engine is. If you see your temps ever spiking again, stop the car, fill it with water and take some with you to get home. Otherwise have it towed. A blown engine is far more serious than a split hose or loose clamp.

P.S. I am new here. I have noticed that people who present problems they are worried about are as often met with ridicule rather than advice or sympathy. Is this common or have I run across a bad day or two?

Excuse me but I still can't figure it out. Is your spelling, the strange aggressivity and the extreme vulgarity a cultural thing? Or is it some sort of code? :confused:

Yer bought a landie so throw yer shurt and tie in the washin, get the jeans and Tshurt on, and go, and give it loads of aggression, get it all bashed and muddy wiff a bunch of mates who share the same ethos, go and get ****ed afterwards and share your experiences.

Better still take yer wife, find a quiet spot somewhere and give her a good seing to, something different, up against a tree, on the bonnet, on the fookin roof. Never watch indiana jones!! vulgar my arse.

Even if yer post a load of **** then worst is we take the ****.

Oh and yer can keep the finer details of the wife on the roof thing ter yerself.
