I'm 30 and the insurance wasn't vastly different between an 03 V8 Vogue and similar aged 1.6 Renault Clio!!! I'live life by the motto of go big or go home!!

As far as the Username goes, if its gonna be a problem i'll easy change it!:eek:

Volvo, saab, bmw, all made for the 'bigger' person*. The reason I asked what you have driven until now is that a 4x4 does not handle like a 'car'. May I suggest you go and get some time in a 4x4 before putting yourself on the road in one. Even if you just go to one of those 4x4 experience places, to get an idea of how the veh handles and it's abilities. No offence intended but it is not normally someone's first car and personally I would say unless you learn to drive in one, it never should be. If I ran the world**, I'd add 4X4 to the list of vehs new drivers have to take a further exam in before being allowed out in public in them.

* The range rover is not made for someone tall. I'm 6' and have issues with leg room. Any journey over 20miles plays havoc with my knees. The 3 makes I mention above all have leg room to spare.

Not being biased but my first motor was a freelander

Amazingly the 2litre 4x4 was cheaper to insure than a 1L corsa ! Lol

And that was when I was 17 years old lol

Good post. My son is learning to drive and he's not allowed to drive Silverlandy, even off road although he is desperate to, he loves her. Too big, too heavy and she's an auto, different kettle o fish. It could be very destructive! Once he gets a bit more experience then maybe.... Lol! I'm even funny about my husband driving her as he drives like shes a bloody car or his Ford connect van!! He won't tow with her though through his choice.

I fully appreciate what your saying mate. Drove a good few troopers and P38's when I served my time years ago but that was just round the yard, workshop and up the private road between the workshops.
The 4x4 experience is a crackin shout actually. Think I'll get on that ASAP.

As regards insurance. An old scabby Clio was £950 and a 4.4 Vouge was £980. (The Clio was just the first thing that was in the classifieds!)

The reason clios, fiestas, corsas and the like come in so expensive, in comparison, is that they are popular with boy racer types*. Any of the jobs I've attended that are caused by dangerous driving normally involve that type of vehicle and that group of drivers. Although they are not the only group of cars or drivers who drive dangerously they are in the highest %.

*Boy racer types include females and are not limited to the under 25s ;)

I'm 6'3" and have to wiggle to get my legs in, plus the 56" chest!!

Apart from headroom being an issue, the other halfs fiat 500 has amazing leg room, even I have to have the seat forward from its rear most position!!

I was driving in my landy down to Chelmsford this morning, keeping below 2500rpm for fuel consumption purposes, I heard an almighty roar and was overtaken by a Clio with low profile tyres and an exhaust so big I could have parked my landy in it. On the way back I was passed by an old Escort RS turbo, metallic grey..oh I remember the days....... :rolleyes:
