For that price you could buy an all comms and do it yourself ;)
Very true, but the ride is quite harsh, so instead of waiting for delivery from the States, I 'll book it in and get them to check and recal for me....

The All Comms is on the shopping list btw...!!!

visit www.rswsolutions.com

The All Comms is a home user diagnostic kit for the L322

Cost to import into this country is Around £180-£200 ....

The Software is Free, but the Hardware (the OBDII socket and Lead is the part that costs....

It is reportedly very good....

yer, sorry. My phone does it every so often. Refreshes the screen automatically! So how many common electrical faults can be traced and fixed using this kit? and is it something you attach to your laptop?

Yes, plugs into the laptop. Reads and clears faults on all early L322 ECU's by now I think. Someone who has one will confirm that:)

Thanks guys, this information could make owning the RR a little more reasonable! Is anyone able to fill me in with whether this price seems reasonable, and what to pay for tyres with the standard HSE alloys. Also, what about the service history not all being LR!

Don't be put off by service record. LR service record is not worth the paper they are written on IMHO. far better a RR specialist or enthusiast having done the servicing than the sh@te that some apologies for LR dealers carry out. Find a local specialist near you is my advice.

Mine had no service history, 5 previous owners and 75,000 miles. But I had a RR specialist look it over for £80 and he gave it 8out of 10. Not bad for a 8 year old car. It's not put a foot wrong since in over 25,000 miles!

Has it got a tow bar? towing caravans can be a cause of some probs. Find out if it has towed and use that as a bargaining tool. The price sounds good, but depends on condition and extras. My HSE had a full vogue upgrade inc. heated rear seats and steering wheel, Sunroof, ski pack etc. but no (crappy) BMW satnav (I can read a map and now use my iPad - on dash holder £3.95 from eBay) or vogue seats (I find the HSE seats more comfortable anyway!)

I paid £75 a tyre for some brand new toyo tyres and £20 for fitting. Try eBay for someone changing their wheels. Yuo can pick up a set with 4-5 mm tread for c. £200.

Thanks for the comments, again all really helpful.
It does not have a towbar, and one has never been fitted. I take it that the td6's are chain driven, as opposed to belt? If so, do these chains need regular maintenance, e.g tension checks?
With regards to the spec. I believe that it is just standard HSE spec. No sunroof, rear heated seats, or sat nav. But to be honest, these items are hardly essential. Especially when your are moving up from a defender, with a flap for air con!
Tyres- it has wranglers all round atm. the spare is unused. Someone scared me with the thought of £300 a tyre!
I have made an offer on the car today. £7.5k, they are going to get back to me. Hopefully its a done deal!

Don't be out off with high mileage also.
If the cars been serviced and looked after they will go on forever.

My td6 is on 142K now and still going strong !
Genuine motorway miles !
I would rather have 150k motorway miles than 70k of London driving ! Lol

Ok, so my offer has been accepted. 7.5 k and its mine. What shall I do?! The deal includes tax til december. I'm trying to be rational about this purchase, so any final bits of advice would be appreciated.

Start at the beginning...

  • Do the keys work with the car and lock/unlock correctly...
  • Do all the doors open and close without any movement up or down
  • Are the Panels straight and the gaps within tolerance
  • Is there any damage, scratches etc
  • Do the seats work electrically and heated
  • Does the steering wheel move in and out and tilt without jerkiness or grinding
  • Do the Lights work, dipped, main, full, brakes, reverse, fogs, hazards/indicators
  • Does the car start well without cranking for excessive periods
  • Does the Radio/Nav/CD/ etc work correctly
  • Does the A/C system work both hot and cold and passanger/drivers temp controls
  • Do the Parking sensors work
  • Air Suspension go up to off road height smoothly and take no longer than 2 minutes to complete the lift
  • Does it sink nicely to access
  • Does it rise back to standard again smartly
  • Does the steering turn full lock to full lock without tight spots or grinding
  • Windows open and close properly along with the sunroof
  • Open Bonnet and check for security of all the components
  • No spurious leaks, smells noises, knocking etc
  • Rev it up and check the exhaust colour (White and puffy on a cold day is fine)
  • Any rattles from the exhaust - could be the cat breaking up
  • Go for a drive, smooth gear changes without hesitation
  • Kick down working
  • Manual steptronic and sport modes working
  • No grinding or autobox slippage
  • Any sudden knocks or bangs from the suspension
  • Wandering from side to side
  • Pick an empty road and accelrate to around 20 then brake with reasonable force lightly holding the steering wheel - any sudden wandering to one side or the other
  • Any knocking noises when turning on full lock
  • Find a quiet road or car park - engage Low Range
  • Into drive and check function of the Autobox and also the Manual functions
  • Check under the boot floor in the spare wheel well for signs of dampness
  • Check the left hand side of the boot space were the Sat Nav/Radio/DSP etc is located for signs of dampness
  • Check the Rear lights for sign of condensation
  • Ensure wipers and washers work
  • Ensure there are NO WARNINGS AT ALL SHOWING (this rule goes for the P38 as well as an L322)

If it all looks great, drives great and functions great....go for it.....you won't regret it.

Thanks Saint V8! I have done all of the above checks. The only issues appear to be a problem with the parking sensors, which may be the module, or the individual sensors themselves.
I know of the owner who has had the car since 2004. He has four cars and doesn't need a large vehicle anymore. The car has always been garaged, and the rear seats have only been used a handful of times. The previous owner is also not short of a bob or two, and I know that any essential maintenance/repairs would have been carried out.
How is your V8 treating you, gathered you havn't had it long?

As long as its sound, it will be the best car you will ever own!

Oh and give it a boot, the V8 sends shivers down yer spine with the windows open

Enjoy mate :D

I keep reading about transmission failures, has anyone on here been so unlucky? Oh and can someone confirm if it is chain driven. Would it also be advisable to do a transmission flush?

The L322 will be one week in owenership tomorow...:D:D:D:D

It is fecking brilliant.....

I have had many cars in my short years on this earth, and the L322 is by far and away the very best of a distinguished bunch....

As Deasy83 says, it will be the best car by far....

Aslong as you can verify the ownership - as you say, it has been looked after and the only issue is the PDC (What does it do or not as it maybe - A continuous Tone and a Flashing light indicates a fault - no flashes and a continuous tomne could mean just a dirty sensor)

I am loving My L322 - it had a squeaky bum moment last week, but that was traced to a faulty ABS Sensor - New one from a Main Dealer only £17.60 +VAT.....also it is booked into a Land Rover Service Centre to have the EAS Heights recalibrated and mine sits a bit low at the moment....

Other than that...she is awesome.....
