I left the UK on 6th May and made my way slowly across europe visiting friends and doing some sightseeing and had a couple of problems with my 12 v hot water jug and had to renew some wiring on the cigarette lighter extension as the thin Chinese stuff burnt out. Then after about 2000 miles into the trip the suspension christmas tree lit up and the 35 MPH sign came up. Pump was not working so checked all around and found a burnt out connection in the EAS box so bypassed that.
The day before I was due to enter Russia i had a quiet morning by a lake in Latvia and then thought I would move a little closer to the boarder to get over early next day so started moving all was going well for about 50 km then all of a sudden the temp went up to the red so pulled up immediately and when i got out there was a pool of water running from under the car so thought a hose had blown. On further inspection I found that a fan blade had parted company from the fan and put 3 holes in my radiator. The nearest town was Daugavpils about 20 KM away and the was about 1 car an hour on this road. To get at the leak I had to remove the fan and shield to get at the leaks and patch them up with some epoxy resin.the next day i got into the town and managed to a fan ordered to arrive the next day for 150 euros.
Spent the day sight seeing and next day at 9am the fan arrived and fitted it and then went to the boarder and entered Russia.
Have spent the last 2 day sightseeing in St Petersberg and will move on tomorrow
The Annoying part about this is the fan was renewed last November and the car was laid up until april so it only did about 3000 miles.
Only about 15000 miles to go this trip

I dont know the make but i bought it off the internet for about 70 quid it looks ok and the viscous part is good just 1 blade sheared where it joins the hub

More than likely one of the cheap and cheerful Chinese things. If someone sold it for £70.00 and made profit it can't have cost a lot wholesale. I got a genuine Land rover one off Ebay a couple of months ago for £58.00 including postage. What a find that was. Someone on here saw five of them for sale and asked if they were any good then bought one. I bought mine and there were three left all went overnight. Good spare.

Well yesterday was city day in St Petersburg and there was a free concert outside the winter palace and i recon there was space for 100 000 people to enjoy.
We got there in the afternoon and the dress rehearsal was on so we got front row seats so didnt bother about the real thing which started at 9 pm.
we move on today and head south for the visa lasts for anther 3 weeks before we go to Kazakhstan and then on to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to drive the Pamir highway before we head back to the UK

Neither do I.....I am an RAC member :D:D:D:D:D

No, Seriously....those who doubt the credentials of a P38 as an overland vehicle need to read this guys posts about his travels.....Yes, they will have issues, but nothing that is a definite show stopper, just plan, prepare, have local knowledge and be willing to wait for parts.....

Yes, he's an inspiration to us all ... in fact I'm thinking of a tour of France and Spain while we're still in the EU!

If I was in a fix , I would like you (ovalander) at my side. When my clutch went in the back of beyond in France, I was on my own.Had my spanners but no trolley jack.Got a clutch sent out from England and got mobile again (VM Classic). Got a hernia for my efforts but still got home.:D Ant, had to wait 7 days for the clutch, when I fixed the motor and drove to the nearest big town (Guret) there was a European car part's suppiler on the first roundabout, about 8 km from where I was. BUGGER.:D

That's two recent posts about viscous fans failing. Both pattern parts? I was the one who posted about the genuine fans available on e bay for a good price. Story of my life, I procrastinated about purchase , then they were all gone. Did the condenser fans mod and all has been good so far.

You missed out badly there, thought you had bought one, only four left when i got mine . And they were genuine Landrover bits. ;)

Sell him one: £100. :)

You have to be kidding. Genuine Land Rover PGG101290 like the one i got off Ebay are £310.39. OEM £184.00, after market which could be anything £83.00 from Rimmers. OEM from Island £141.99, (Have one of those fitted at the moment), after market (Allmakes) with no warranty £66.00. Guess why i prefer to keep the one i got as a spare. ;);):D

Got mine from Island but don't remember it being that expensive. It was OEM, not Britpart. It is off a D2 though. Different number of blades to the original and rivets, not bolts, holding the blades in place.

D1 maybe they will fit a P38 but not a D2 they have R/H thread and rotate in the opposite direction. ;);)
