Throw in a litre of kerosene for every 8 to 10 litres of Veg in the tank.

Makes all the difference.

Ridiculous, diesel engines work on compression for the ignition of the fuel. The glow plugs are to heat the diesel to thin it down to aid starting when particulary cold - the more viscous the diesel the harder it is to compress to ignite. Any diesel should start, any time, without the aid of glow plugs at around 3 degrees and above.

in a perfect world yes, but this is no perfect world on a cold engine it needs a little pre heat or a lot of cranking to get then going
 
Yeah last post was a bit strongly worded perhaps. Don't get me wrong in this situation pre-heat is certainly nessesary and probably plenty of cranking! Re-reading his post he does imply it to this particular situation so i apologise for jumping the gun!!
