Mornin Boys. I think me battery mite be a bit fooked. Can I stick a Transit battery in it for now? The battery I have ses 12v 80Ah. Do I have to find one with the same Ah number? I don't understand wot it means. Found batteries with 68Ah and 72Ah. BIG kissis. XXXXXXXXXX

the Ah rating is a measure of battery capacity - theoretically a 72Ah battery can supply 72A for 1hr, or 36A for 2hr, or 18A for 4hr and so on.
The amount of "whizz" is dependent on the battery charge condition and the condition of the starter motor and connections in between.
yes, you can fit a transit battery - it will be fine.
it's best to fit the biggest Ah battery that you can afford and that will physically fit into your battery box.

yo current alt will charge it at its max charging rate - wot did yu get when yu replaced it?
its simple maffs - if yo batt is rated at 80Ah that means it will discharge at 80Amps in an hour - if yu gorra 80 Amp Alternator - that will charge at the same rate yo batt is discharging. - if yu run a batt at 80Amps fur an hour - i wud be surprised, nay shocked!
if yu discharge the batt at 40 amps - the 80Amp alternator will recharge at the same rate - usually tho the power is taken straight from the alternator, the batt is just a big holding warehouse fur the ickle ampy peeps.

mr Trewy yer fergotin crankin amps, a higher crank amps rating will alow the starter to spin faster i.e. the battery of a vauxhall nova will hardly turn the engine over but the battery off me tratta will spin it like its a bellyflopta (up to the maximum the cables can hold) the starter is an unregulated lekki moter after all so the more power it can draw the faster it will spin

There is a certain amount of "snake oil" spouted about batteries, but yes CCA rating can be an issue if you use a battery significantly smaller than recommended for your vehicle. However, a battery with a higher CCA rating will not turn your engine over faster - cranking speed is determined by the internal resistance of the battery, starter motor and connections. A higher CCA rated battery will crank it at maximum speed for longer though, before it's voltage, and hence the cranking speed, starts to drop off.
the more mechanical resistant a starter sees the more current it will try and draw from the battery, if it cant draw enough current (due to a low CCA rated battery) there exists the possibility that it will not reach a rotational speed that is fast enough to spin the engine fast enough to fire it - if the battery is being expected to deliver a current output that exceeds its CCA it will discharge very quickly and is likely to become overly hot and damage will occur
