Just been on a trip to Blackpool about 80 mile each way without a glitch, got almost home and was driving down a hill in drive and the engine cut out and gearbox fault came up on the display. Knocked it in to neutral straight away and rolled on to a safe place to stop... Moved into park then re started and carried on like nowt has happened...

Is it heading for a Costly repair or could it be something simple?

It's a 2000 (x) DHSE auto....

Maybe an oil change?
If a fault was induced something might show up on diagnostics, but I'm no expert there I'm afraid
 
If the engine stalled and then or almost immediatly the GB fault came up, that is almost certainly in sympathy to the engine stalling...Low Volts, No GB Pump Pressure etc....


P38's hate low/no volts and the first to pop up are the TC/ABS/Brake lights and/or Gearbox Fault...

I am inclined to say no issue, and it is just a result of the engine dieing....
 
Thanks for the replies... It's stalling a bit recently, mainly when at low revs and not enough boost... As mentioned on my other thread... Perhaps a new map sensor may fix the stalling issue

hmmmm....More inclined to think the Quantity servo or FIP timing is out if it drops so low it stalls...MAP sensor comes into its own at higher revs...
 
Seemed a bit unusual for it to stall while rolling down a hill though. Not applying power.. Just rolling along in drive...

It only seems to do it when asking it for power it seems to struggle to give... Other that when rolling down hill that time when the gearbox fault popped up.
 
Also, after the advice given on my other thread I assumed the map to be faulty as it struggles to pull off up to 2000 revs then its off like a rocket. Trying to set off up hill is a joke, takes ages to get going....
 
Wammers is a Diesel Guru....but if the idle speed (which I think is set by the Quantity Servo) is low enough, the engine will have a tendency to stall easily...oftentimes, when you go to reapply power the engine stutters, or if you suddenly and rapidly take your foot off the accelerator the engine faults and can stall...this means the FIP is closing to far and shutting off the fuel supply...

Once you get your Nanocom, you'll have to check the pump modulation timing to see if it is indeed out of step with itself!

With the MAP, it is the other way round...it struggles for power as the Turbo comes on boost around 2k rpm...
 
Yeah I will check all that as soon as the nanocom arrives... Should have been dispatched today... The low power at low revs don't change with map connected or disconnected. Should I still replace that. ?
 
As I say Wammers is the Diesel Guru....

There should be a noticable power difference with the MAP disconnected, but if you are having power issues below 2K you may not notice a major difference....but on a sorted M51, there is a marked and distinct difference with the MAP disconnected!
 
Just a thought but if FIP timing out would that cause low power below 2000 revs? It's really really bad pulling off on any kind of Incline

It won't make things any better. As i have said many times throughout this saga get it on diagnostics. Is it a manual? Idle should be 750 +_ 50. When you get your Nono all will be revealed.

Wammer will violently disagree, but disconnect the MAF (not the MAP) and see if it's different.
Lots of reports on other sites about a duff MAF affecting low end performance. Also worth pulling the vacuum tube off the EGR valve.
