hm, appreciate the way of thinking about the problem solving aspect.

I have the sump off still, so that would give me good acces to check the clearances of the skirts. More info soon. Thanks again.
Never measured the skirts but i would think you're more interested the the crown movement at/around tdc if you want to check for slappers (ooo-errr missus!!!)

noted... will check.

Good one to have. i think what i have is best described as a knocking sound no?

All, another idea to get the crankshaft to go operating rpms. Would an impact drill with an appropriate bit get it to spin over fast enough to maybe replicate is piston slap is a thing

Personally, i think trying to spin the engine at the crank pulley won't present a lot of potential issues due to the lack of sudden push caused by each combustion

Not sure but you’d get a very tight hub nut 😀

gents, i found SOMETHING. if its the thing were looking for id like to check rn.

cil 4, score mark which alligns with the skirt of the cillinder. hard to see but there is a longitudional line and a little hourglass shaped mark on the piston. these seem to line up. possible signs of a knock?
i only have .05 mm guage and not the .063 one. .05 is not super tight but has some resistance.

another thing, i mentioned not hearing a tick when running it with the starter. but i did hear a tick when it was in the car…

Were the ring gaps equally split around the circumference. Is there some black marks in the cylinder pic running down
Have you honed the bores after new rings
