WTF is wrong with my tailgate regulator?

Right, this poxy thing is really winding me up now. The old tailgate window regulator was intermittent, and when in "failure mode" (glass stuck, door not opening) I put it into self-test mode and was able to see that inputs from the switch in the cab were OK, door handle OK, output to the motor also OK, but the motor did not operate. So I came to the conclusion that the regulator was on the way out and bought a new one with wires, runners, etc.

I fitted that on Friday and all was well until this morning when I got a whole host of new failures....

1) Pressing the switch down results in the glass dropping an inch. Press it again and it does the same, ad nauseum until the glass finally reaches the bottom.

2) Raising the glass on the switch results in it going up by about an inch. Press again, same thing. Keep going until it reaches the top.

3) The tailgate was jammed shut again.

4) I disconnected the battery to try and recalibrate the window. 10 mins later I reconnected it, but the tailgate glass would only drop an inch, and not all the way to the bottom. So, recalibration didn't work.

This did release the tailgate latch though so I could get in and take the door panels off for a squint. All seems well with the fitment of the new regulator and wiring, etc, so nothing untoward there.

I put it into self-test mode again and, once again, all inputs and outputs check out OK. This time the output test to the window motor worked, but it just dropped an inch and not all the way down; same as when operated with the switch.

I assume this means my new regulator is not functioning correctly? I have contacted the supplier to see what they say, but await a reply. If anyone's got any suggestions in the meantime (burning it IS an option I will consider!:D) then please enlighten me!

The old regulator came away in pieces, so I can't refit that for now.

:confused::mad::confused:

try looking at the wiring in the door and as it just goes into the car wiring looms in the doors do break down and since they were made in China insted of in the uk like they used to be at rist wires and cables they will always keep letting people down Lr have had to put new ones in my doors as the speakers stoped working hope this helps

Looked at the wiring in the door and all is OK as far as I can tell.

There are further facets to this tale. Today the rear wiper and rear demister have decided to stop working too. OK, I get the wiper, but the demister?? I know all these circuits go through the CCU, but what the hell is inhibiting the demister?

To add further confusion, I have done the CCU self test numerous times this evening and everything checks out OK, except for the tailgate glass not dropping more than an inch. The rear wiper works in test mode, as does the rear demister switch beep and the relay click on the output test.

I've got no bloody idea on this now, but am hoping that it IS related the new regulator I put on. I have contacted the company I bought it from today an they are going to send another one out. Fingers crossed...

Update: I received the new regulator kit today, fitted it and now.............

............all is well :D

The window works, the wiper works, the rear demister works and I'm not inventing new sweary words any more:)

Hopefully it'll last longer than three days this time:rolleyes:
