Hi Jono, the recommended oils are in the handbook, the filter is quite easy to change as long as you've got the correct size socket to take the top off the filter housing. The worst bit with draining the oil is that you have to take the tray under the engine off to get at the drain plug, it's not difficult but there are lots of screws and bolts holding it in place.
I've sent a couple of attachments which will help you. ( if I've done it right )

Jerry, that worked fine. Very helpful post.

I agree that removing the belly pan is a pain. Ming modified his for easy removal I think. Not sure if he's on Earth at the moment or off conquering other worlds ;)

I tend to remove the 2 rearmost bolts and just let the plastic liner drop down. Not sure if the TD4 sump plug and filter are as easy to get to as mine though.

A access hole cut with a 120mm hole saw can be usefull... really just enough to get access to the sump plug.

Yep bin on ma hols in Zog,then had rocket probs, yes i modded the sump protector with quick release bolts [i find it a lot better] i use Halfords half synthetic oil [diesel] good as any ,doing yer own oil change is the best way i do mine every year + new filter, always fit a new washer to yer sump plug, i thought i could get away with a re use and ended up with a oily path [Mrs MING was not happy] so she got the whip out again [the bitch] i always think with any type of diesel regular oil change is the best maintenance yer can do, unless like the Mondo yer changing it on a a daily basis [tee he] . . .:)

For your information, The hippo had its oil changed when i first bought it,(just so i knew it had been done).
Its just been for a 950mile squirt around bonny Jockland,Its first good run out,(which it bloody loved) and it aint needed any oil, water,Head gaskets,
maf sensors, tyres, clock display fixes or anything else you care to name.
And I love it! So there:p

Just leaves the VCU to sort SOON;) and a new filter for the crank breather thingy which should stop the smoky bit:D  I hope???
