rear diff bang

every now and then when either i change gear at reasonable speed but get high quite enough revs and let the clutch up abit too quick i sometimes get a bang at the back and even at times when i dont change gear but floor it from coasting i also get the bang/knock -is this just the 4wd just kicking in?
the rear diff has been done and so should be in good nick..

Same as the guy towing, forward diff mount, got same problem on mine.

easy job to swap? actually not noticed when towing but it is only a small trailer upto 700kgs

It slowly degenerates with more milage, or if you have a wife (like mine)that eases up the clutch and then drops it when she gets moving, just waiting for the newer TD4 to start doing it soon !!!
My older one is a v plate TDi with 150,000 on the clock, the 55plate TD4 only (?) has 80.000 so far, probably easy if you have a ramp or a pit, no doubt some will know if you have to drop the crossmember.

not even fussed about doing it tbh unless its gonna fubar anything else

Diff mounts are a easy job to do, I followed the link on this forum, didn't need to drop the crossmember.

the way to do it is easy undo all 4 bolts on the sub frame but not all the way udo the mount and swap and then redo all 4 bolts be care full as the body can roll a bit a bit frightening the first time to see this each bolt must be done up to 190 Nm or 140 lbs if this is not done then the sub frame will work loose and can rip the nuts out of the body

Just to be different it was the rear two on mine? The front one had already been done previously. It sounded and felt like the diff was trying to come thru the floor, mainly when taking up drive, but also when booting it I poly bushed all three!

I didn't undo the subframe at all? You can do all the mounts and not touch anything else!

^ as above. Why undo the subframe. Just slacken off the rear mounts, that gives enough swing on the diff to get access to get the front one off and on.

ok that was the way i was told by LR next time I will try it your way will save a lot of tme and worry about the bolts

Some like me found the sub frame had to be lowered a bit. Others don't need to do this. Don't know what the difference is. I had all mine loose with diff to one side and still couldn't get the front one in. Try first without dropping sub frame and see how it goes. Good luck.

You weren't trying I've just replaced mine with poly bushes they're chunkier than originals and harder to get back in. If you undo all three you can do the front one ok. I changed all three any way

At first I thought it was only v6 owners that struggled to fit the front bush, but some v6 owners have said they managed without dropping the frame. On mine it weren’t just a few mm out, I couldn't turn the mount enough to remove it. Don't know why. It's a common topic to discuss. Peeps don't like mentioning dropping the frame as it doesn't need to be done. But on mine it did. So had to be done. Bit like marking props to fit back in the same position. Peeps moan it's not needed but can't help when someone refits them unmarked when they ask if the wobble they then feel is because the props are unbalanced. Yer can’t please everyone.

Thems poly bush fings. What did they cost and where did you get them from? Does the ride feel different and do they allow the diff to move about as wheels move about oft road, compared to LR mounts?

Got them from flo-flex from their eBay shop. Bit of a **** to fit! All I can tell you is my originals were so knackered I have no comparison! But there's no noises and it all seems nice and taught

job for the nephew me thinks with his press when ive picked some up, and now i know its not the normal clunk of the 4wd kicking in..

i think we are getting a bit old Hippo for these new fangeld things or is it just me
