Oil around joints in pipework for EGR

Hi All

I was checking under the bonnet today and noticed an increasing amount of oil around the connections from the rubber hoses to the plastic bit at the front of the engine (TD4), particularly on the bit where the sensor is mounted. I have checked the oil on numerous occasions since buying the car in Feb. It was always a bit high but put it down to the drive not being level! I moved it to the flattest part of the garden and left to settle. Checked dipstick and oil was about 9mm above max!
I have removed about 3/4 litre and it is now on max mark.

When I bought the car it had just been serviced by LR main dealer in North Wales!

Could this have been the cause of other leaks?

check yer hoses int got a split [rubber turbo inlet . . .large three off em] also has yer de compresoin filter in engine been changed [if it gets clogged can spew oil out]

Yah usually is the engine breather filter.Change it and get the engine clean up then see where is the leak.

Typical, a stealer just reading the book and putting 6,5 liter of oil where, in my experience 5,5 is enough.

Yup its only 5.5 litre of oil not 6.5litres as claim in the manual even an oil filter replacement is carried out.I always ask the mechanic is to put in 5 litres and the balance i will put in myself.They always overfill

Of course, as the filter is a standing type it's not entirely filled like an hanging type. By now this should be known by those doing plenty of oilchanges compared to the single persons doing it themselves once a year.

Don't know but the pipes towards the EGR include, with the arrival of fresh air, also the oily air coming from the engine breather filter. When you disconnect for example the right hand L-shaped (elbow) pipe off the EGR you will see it's all oily inside. This oily subtance goes into the EGR and if this egr is still operational and delivering hot exhaust gasses under certain circumstances due to these hot exhaust gasses this oily crap is burned into the egr valve and ends up by clogging up the whole valve as you can see on pictures in threads about the EGR. That's why people do block off and/or bypass the EGR.
