Guys

The intank diesel pump on my TD5 has be whining away for ages, its never bothered me too much. However it has been getting worse and worse and the vehicle has become difficult to start. The final straw came about 6 weeks ago when the bloody thing cut out in the que for the severn bridge toll and I couldnt get it going again resulting in me sitting there like a lemon much the the 'amusement' of my fellow bridge goers.

So I took the plunge and changed the pump, purged the system of air, blah blah. Only problem is that its made no difference the pump is still whining and the engine often seems to cut out when I come to a stand still after a long run and its a pig to get started again.

Im thinking air must be getting into the system somewhere, but im stuggling to find where. Ive been all over the fuel system and can find no sign of diesel coming out. Im thinking it might be a crack in the filter housing or the injector seals. Any comments or other suggestions??

Also, I forgot to mention that the vehicle can be hesitant during acceleration, Im not sure if this could be due to a lack of fuel getting to the engine or a leak in the vacuum system.....

Right, I've got that destinctive o'dur diesle about me. Took the filter houing off last night, still no sign of anything that might cause the horrible noises from my diesel pump.

If one of the hoses ontop ontop of the deisel tank had worn through, would I expect diesel to be ****ing out everywhere??

What are the symptoms of seal failure on the injectors??

mine did that messed me around for a month or two, it was oil in the ECU plugs, l cleaned them and its been ok since

Thanks, I've checked them. Looks like the wireing has been replaced at some point, no sign of oil ingress...

Problem turned out to be the Injector seals. I'd always suspected they were the problem but hoped it wasnt as it was one of the more difficult things to fix.

Anyway they are all changed now and she is starting on the first turn of the starter motor. She is still a bit hesitant on acceloration but i'll change the fuel filter and give it a few weeks to see if the situation improves. If not I'll clean out the intercooler etc and balnk off the EGR system.
