Okay so after reading around I found that TD5s have two types of ecus ... The MSD and the NNN ones, out of curiosity I went out to check mine and what do I see... oil in the red socket.

I bought the Defender new in 2002 and it now has 118k kms on the clock, I have always known that sooner or later it is bound to happen so I ordered the harness about 3 years back. Its a BearMach part, part# AMR 6103, batch 128810733633, is this a good quality part? Will it last? The question is do I have to change the whole harness or can I just replace the O rings responsible? Are there any other parts needed for this job? And how do I clean the sockets and the whole wiring from the engine to the ecu?

I was also wondering now that I will be taking the rocker cover off, should I replace the copper washers under the injectors? My car has been running absolutely fine but I read somewhere that it makes a decent difference.
I already have the genuine copper washers but I need to get the injector O rings, if some one can please provide the part #s for the O rings and the rocker cover gasket that would be great!

Any help is appreciated!!

if the injectors are fine leave the copper washers alone,
you need to change the complete injector harness, its pretty easy then clean the red plug with electrical contact cleaner, and periodically clean again until oil is not present there,
your bearmach harness should do the job, there are links how to do the job if you use the search button

I have been experiencing 2nd or 3rd crank starting lately specially in winters and this is long before the oil in the socket, the glow plugs are fine... could the injector washers be the reason? Changing oil and all filters has not fixed it.. my car is fine and quite well looked after.

It also gives out more than usual black smoke which is quite recent... injector washers?? oil in socket or anything else?

How would you rate the bearmach product against genuine LR and allmakes?

I have found the guide....www.discovery2.co.uk / Workshop /Injector Harness

poor running and starting could be injector seals and washers, if your gonna change them use the genuine ones as the copies dont seem to work to well,
