Hi there from sunny Scotland, Newbie here from Blackburn aberdeenshire.

My question for you all is this my Girlfriends parents have an 04 defender fitted with the TD5 engine it has approx 72k on the clock and recently the engine went bang in a big way, total destruction of engine and turbo. Now the garage and landrover told them it was the cylinder head which had cracked causing diesel and oil to mix which destroyed the engine, so in went a new engine from landrover complete with new turbo only for the same thing to happen 2 days later!!, So this time it went to a landrover dealer for another engine refit only for the same thing to happen again on the journey home!!:mad:. Finally another engine later and a week later and all seems fine apart from a small oil leak from the filter housing!.
So the question is this was there a recall or known problem from landrover that they can use to claim back some of the £6k+ they have had to shell out for repairs. The original warranty ran out only a few weeks before the first engine fault but surely a landrover with only 72k which has been fully maintained and never been offroad in fact its quite pampered in landy terms shouldn't have blown up in such a big way.

So any help would be very helpful indeed.

Contact landy customer services and see if they are prepared to offer any goodwill, this should have been done when it went into main stealers for first engine replacement, though reading your thread im guessing the first one was not done by stealers?...So approach people who fitted first engine and find if warranty applies to that engine as im assuming it should coz they aint gonna fit an engine without warranty are they?

Cheers for the reply,

They've been in contact with Landy Customer services and they are as much use as a broken leg!. The first engine was done by an independant specialist who say the warranty is valid only for the first engine once payment is made , But surely landy should stand good for the first engine if there was a known problem or recall which i think there was? what do you think guys do they have a case?.

Interesting looking MK2 in your avatar by the way whats that beast all about?
