My Defender is a G Reg 1990, with a 200 TDI in it.
Would it have been made with the 200 TDI already in it??, as some people say the engine was fitted later and some think it is the original one.
It is defanatley a Defender engine, and not a Disco.

Thanks

I am pretty sure 1989 was when they started fitting the 200tdi engine in a defender, mine is a 1988 90 not a defender and was a 2.5td but converted to a defender 200tdi before I bought it they re-named them as defender 90 /110's in 1989 I think aswell so think yours should be right as it a 1990 :)

yeah. Mine's a 1989 2.5TD, 19J engine and badged as a Landrover 90.

I believe it was In 1990 that they changed at some point to a Defender badge and the 200Tdi .. so the answer is, maybe! Some 1990's are 19J some are 200Tdi ... ;)

Could you try one of those bits of software on the web like Calvin to interpret the VIN number? Might enlighten you as to what engine would have been fitted originally.

The change of motor happened during the H reg year, my H reg 90 was 19j [went 200 6 years ago] and my mate's also a H plate is an early 200, but with Landrover your G plate could have been a devlopment vehicle.

Tottot is right it was on a H that the 200tdi was introduced, this coincided with the name changing to Defender.

Post a pic of your engine so we can see if it is a Defender tdi.

Mine is a 1990, 110 Defender and has the original 200tdi. Mine was a pre-production military spec model which was given to the French army for assessment.
