I posted a thread about this a little while ago,the response was if it,s got drums on the rear they will not fit.
Is this because the hub nut cover sticks out through the centre cap,iv,e tried them on and this is all that seems to be wrong?,if you could get different covers they would fit.
or is there something else iv,e missed?.

I believe it is all about the way the wheels sit on the hub. Wheel studs are primarily meant to keep the wheel attached, not support the weight of the vehicle. One problem is that the wheel may appear to fit, and all may seem fine, but you will be putting excessive strain on the studs, that can then snap, maybe after a year or more.

cheers davec
The thing is when you look at a standered wheel against the drum all that is supporting it is the studs.

And a hell of a lot of friction against it the drum! I have heard of people that have fitted big wheel spacers to put the alloys on - it also widens the track so you can have more steering with big tyres, and makes it handle better. Aparently...

thanks boydy,as you say there is a hell of a lot of friction between wheel and drum.I have also noticed on my 110 fitted with steel modulars there is about a 4mm gap between the hub and wheel centre, and they have been on there for about 3years with no trouble.

As i sed in yer last fred (when i suggested buyin em off of you!!!) i didn't think there was a problem with this, but someone (Yella?) said they thought they didn';t fit on the rear with drum wheels.

I have a set on my 90 (1990) and they are fine, the rubber hub nut cap sticks niccely through the hole in the middle!

Are you coming to play on Saturday??

Thanks all for your comments, with ref to yellow i like all the answers given. i thought the idea of the post was to get a general response.I am going to sell the wheels (alloy boosts) ,and get a set of steels.
Cheers celtic

Sorry to bump this thread again but... I have just bought a set of disco alloys, and the studs don't reach far enough through the holes to put a nut on. Do I need to fit longer wheel studs or summat, or do I need to sell the alloys? It would be a shame 'cos they are in really good nick and i got them for very little.

Yeah I did that, the rubber bit poked through and the wheel sat nicely against the hub - but the studs don't appear to go through them enough. To be honest, the holes looked too big anyway. I can take some pictures of this'll help?

Stick a photo on - be interested to compare them! Mine fit fine but i dunno whether there were any mods to get em to do so coz it's how i got it!

Have you got the nuts that came with the alloys - just a thought, they actualy stick through the wheel quite a way, which obviously the original wheel nuts don't.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!
Alloy wheels need completely different nuts to steel wheels.
If you use the wrong ones, your wheels WILL fall off.

Steel wheel nuts are domed at the bottom and fit into a domed recess in the wheel.
Alloy wheel nuts are flat at the bottom and mate to a flat surface on the wheel.
