Hi everyone,

I am planning on buying my first Defender soon and I've been scouring these forums (and others) for information on what to look for when viewing potentials.

I'm not expecting any Defender I can afford to tick all the boxes but at least I should have an idea of what work I'm going to need to do...

I've put all the info that I have gathered together into a checklist that I can take with me so I don't forget anything important (attached as a PDF)

I thought I would post it here as it might be useful to other newbies and also so that the more experienced can tell me where I've got it wrong ;)

Many thanks to all the members who posted the info that I have used - I can confirm that the search option does indeed work as intended!

You might also want to check under the carpet in the load space if it's a station wagon as mine filled all your criteria and I've just discovered the seal between the top half of the body and the tub is leaking in one tiny space causing the load space to fill up with water! The fix requires taking the panels off which is not a short job! However if you add too many things to that list you may never get a defender :D
