200 TDi Wiper parking

Hi there,
I'm new to the forum and hopeful that someone can help me.
I had a problem with my wipers, eventually traced to a loose connection on the back of the fuse panel. In the process of trying to find the problem, I took the motor out and cleaned and re-greased the gearbox and linkage. The wipers are now working fine, but parking on the right (i.e. at the clockwise end of their travel as viewed from the driver's seat) instead of the left (anti-clockwise end). Does anyone know how / why this can happen and how I can fix it?

Take the wiper arms off their splines, run the wiper motor and put the wipers back on in the correct position.

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately that's not the problem. The motor is parking at the clockwise end of the spline's travel. Therefore, when the wipers are switched on, they move anticlockwise initially. By placing the arms parallel with the bottom of the windscreen, when the motor is parked, it will try to wipe the bonnet when it is switched on.
The problem must be somewhere within the motor - it must know somehow when the arms have reached the end of their travel.

Oh I see. On the gearbox and linkage housing bit there is the electrical connector block which incorperates the switch, it's operated by a lump on the plastic linkage. have you put the linkage back in the wrong way round, I can't see that thats possible 'cos the two ends are different.
