I've had a bit of smoke on start up first thing in the morning.
I'd read a few place's you can change the seals with the head still on so here's a quick write up on how I did it.

I take no responsibiliy for anything you do.

The piston's must be at TDC or you will lose the valve's down the bore.

Remove the rocker cover.
Then remove the rocker shaft. 5 bolts on top.
I made a clamp up a work from a few bit's of metal to push the springs down.
First you get piston 1 in TDC (piston as far up as it can go) I removed the glowplug to check this.
Then took the collets out with the home made clamp of valve 1 & 2 & replaced the seals, you just need to give them a good pull with a pair of mole grips. I made up a bush to push the seal home.
Then put the collets back in place. Then I moved onto 7 & 8 as the piston is inline with 1.
I then maked the crank & turned it 180 deg's so piston 3 & 4 are both at TDC & did the same for 3, 4, 5 & 6 as these will be TDC all at the same time.
I then adjusted the tappet's & put back together.

Please feel free to take the head off if you don't like the idea of doing it in place.

a U shaped ball joint splitter levering under the rocker shaft can be used to compress the valve springs too.
must be noted also that yours is a diesel and there are extra procedures for the petrol.

did it stop the smoking?
