in a new pickle
being a #### I got myself stuck earlier with only one vehicle and just me driving , wedged deep onto a tree stump with no recovery gear as I was only intending to crossaxle to try my welded diff

anyways the only thing I had was a ratchet strap which has no chance pf pulling by strapping , the solution was :

fed strap through rear wheel then around 2 nearby trees to make a triangle with the pointy end at the defender, tie strap tight together at tree end and hook onto towhitch

as I spun the wheels slowly in reverse the strap twisted on itself making the triangle smaller until it has no choice to start pulling the landy out :D

pics below these were taken after it has moved back 6 feet or so and out of trouble but it shows the rigging

cheers guys , yeah I welded it up mitch what a difference ! I did briefly take the front prop off to slide and dohnut it before refitting and going ofroad , yeah I always get myself into trouble !

bigvinnie, I always try and keep some in with me , this time I only had one and no tools at all, had no choice but to get myself out as no phone signal and my battery was going flat lol , im surprised that what I did worked :)

yeah, there is nothing like **** poor preperation

well this vehicle has been stood away from home for a month so is not offroad equipped , I was only intending to do a few crossaxles so shouldn't really have needed anything else, my fault for taking a different path to what I usally do

can you do a sketch as i cant picture it

Doesn't have to be colored in or to scale or owt just direction of pull and forces etc :D

Twot buy an hilift. & whats the point of deliberately getting cross axled if you don't wanna get stuck.

Oh and bin that strap after been twisted like that. it's likely to snap the next time you use it..

cos iv welded the rear diff so and testing it crossaxling isent a problem anymore ,it was because I went into mud where theres tree stumps being a tit

yeah got loads of them anyway I just used it to improvise
can people work out how iv done it from that sketch?

That is genius chap!
How to sort yourself out with sod all around!

Looks bloody dangerous to me ! And pretty pointless, that strap is pretty flimsy, and woud only pull you into the tree if it did work.

With a hi lift, a rope and a few shackles you can safely winch out of most things. Why mess around like that

it's a solution to a problem and shows a bit of lateral thinking imho

it has, as Pikey said, trashed the strap but if it's discarded it won't cause anyone any harm.

not dangerous as im inside the vehicle not outside if it snaps

the tree 5 feet away where I only need to move 3 feet in any direction to get my front axle off the stump and in reverse low everything happens slowly

I don't have a high lift.winch.shackles or waffles in this vehicle at the moment I wasent intending to leave the hard ground

by the way you say " if it did work " it did and that's why I posted it here cos it got me out of trouble :)

and by the way pikey throwing it around the wheel dosent work hence why its in the spokes
also thanks to the posters who haven't posted negative replies :)

Nicely done mate. Ignore those posting negative comments. I can't begin to understand what goes through their heads before typing.

I've been in plenty of situations I've been unprepared for and working out some redneck solution is all part of the fun. Just because its red, doesnt mean it has to be dangerous.

The other day I got my new holland outfront flail mower stuck down a byway i was cutting.. no farmer nearby, didnt have the cordless winch, just a van half a mile away and a lot of rope.

I wrapped the rope around the flail, tied it to a tree and pulled myself out at 1600rpm :D

I get stuck a lot doing my job, usually I find a farmer and the pic below is the result.

..and sometimes its the mower pulling out the van..
