Did you pass your MOT with no cat/DPF?

Though this may be useful as the topic keeps popping up. Time for a poll!

I believe the new MOT law only affects the 300tdi, TD5 and Puma. In other words if it left the factory with a cat/DPF it has to have one, that said the area is grey to say the least.

As above yes or no, comment when.

Personally 2002 TD5 Defender 90 - De-Cat/Straight Though/No EGR passed MOT July '14

twaddle on a diesel the cat does naff all anyway. DPF is a different story - how ever Rip the guts out of it / straight through it with a "DPF shell" so it looks the aprt - reprogram the ECU so the lights out and they wont know - i know plenty people that have done this.

decatted both my non land rover vans many years ago as the cat housing rotted out

despite it being obvious they are missing (cat shaped heat sheild from the undercarridge still in place - with just a straight through pipe runningthrough it and alot of space round it where the cat should fill the heatshield its never even been commentted on.

its another ill thought out "scare the consumer" into keeping their nice expensive regularlyl going wrong cats and DPFs on their vehicles.

What we really need is someone to hurry up and develop fuel pre heater systems that give a cleaner burn anyway - like they do on modern ships.
 
FWIW - D2 TD5 2001 XS - EGR deleted, no cat, straight through centre section. No worries. I do have proof from Land Rover that she never had a cat fitted at production ;)
 
And thus the grey area! My TD5 had a cat but yours does not. Checked using that only checker thingy and apparently theres an early and late 02 TD5 one with a cat one without and no way to distinguish.
 
As I've said on this forum before, my 2006 TD5 Defender passed its MOT back in June with a non-CAT stainless exhaust. Yes, it had a CAT on the old one I took off. Nobody mentioned anything. Except they said how nice it was and how well looked after it seemed.
 
here in the wilds, sorry make that rural mid wales, the mot guy is more concerned with checking for the bits that fall off aren't in the process of falling off.
my 300 tdi 110, passed the last 2 mots with half an exhaust - all that was said " was the exhaust deliberately modified or did it fall off", the correct answer was deliberately modified.
 
My Range Rover is petrol and my discovery was to so can't do the poll

But my wife's 330d bmw and my 320d bmw both have the cat/DPF removed and both have had there mots recently and both passed
Because it's a visual check most (decent testers) don't bother looking that or they don't care
Also on the cars it's hard to see the down pipes because of the under trays
