Monster : World's First 8 Wheel Drive Land Rover Defender | Monster Tuning

I want it! and I want that disco too!

I like the fender but what the fook would you use it for?

The disco isnt my thing.

But both are feats of engineering and i tip my hat to the people who did it.

There not far from me so will definitely be giving them a call for future work if i need to. :)

I don't know if this is the same one but Richards Chassis were in the process of making an 8x8 defender chassis when I collected my one from them in October, the chassis alone was bloody enormous!

God knows what the owner is planning on doing with it other than as a promo vehicle!

Yes its a richards chassis,I sent them drawings a long time ago for a 6x6 chassis for a qoute never heard back then I find out they made someone one:mad: I think its a dumb idea without rear steer as with weight on it it would be dangerous and I bet It would crack the chassis as the section hasnt been upgraded. I wish he had done the engineering right so it was a show piece for the right reasons instead of a shock item.
Id like to have his money though theres £12k plus of foley/ashcroft over axle units!

Well I've got to say, that powertrain does seem a little over kill just to carry a spare wheel. :):p:rolleyes:

Its 2 foley units google 6x6 landrover and you can see them

I've not seem those before. How to they work? Are they like a diff that lets the propshafts turn at different speeds? or are they fixed cogs?

If they are fixed cogs, I can see what you mean that you think it might be too much for the chassis. There must be some force there if it gets wound up. Those tyres dont look like they would lose grip very often.

Personally I think you need to revive your idea of building a 6x6. As you seem to be localish, I will gladly help out by turning to drink your tea and see how you're getting on every once in while.

That 8x8 does look cool though.

I am guessing there will be some form of cab on the back. Maybe something special for festivals?

Like those massive command units russians used to have.

There is no diff between axles ,like a eight legger where you have a diff and can lock it or not.
This means if you forget and drive on tarmac the unit goes pop(foers ibex abandoned the ashcroft unit for being weak), thats why I designed my own splitter box which works well . Foers showed a interest in it so I live in hope.
Mungungus Ive built a few 6x6 now,but Ive had a enquiry about building another on dana 60 axles and a cummins 6bt if it happens i'll let you know and you can have a look;)

So would i be right in thinking whenever you steer the front, the 4 wheels in the mid part will just drag surely?

I think that's what pressbrake is talking about. Basically, the rear 6 wheels will be fighting each other on every bend. I don't think its as easy to say that the mid part will be dragged. That implies that the rear wheels will always have more traction that the mid wheels.

By the look if it, none of those wheels will lose traction easily. So will fight each other via the diffs and propshafts. At best there will be excessive tyre wear. At worst something will break.

Who knows what the weakest part of the system is. Propshaft, half shaft, chassis? I hope the designer knows his stuff.

Yeah, all that effort and he puts a ****y Britpart clutch in it!,
