What causes the book symbol ?

Any fault in hevac system will take book up, very common fault is "clutch fault" usually needs re-charge if there is no leak in system.
What is all that about tech bulletins? I'm sorry but I just don't understand what all that means.
I have changed the passenger side blend motor recently, but the heater control buttons (temp control) on the passenger side make no difference if the book symbol is lit. I can turn the engine off, and restart the car and the book symbol wll go out, and my heaters work as they should.
I am thinking that there may be a loose conection somewhere, but the switching the engine on/off thing is a bit bizzare to me...

Did you have the blend motors calibrated with diagnostics after replacing them ??? This is the usual procedure, more often than not, overlooked. They need to be "Taught" their open and closed positions to prevent strain on the delicate plastic gearing and to enable the HEVAC to calculate the current position from the feedback voltage generated by the potentiometer fitted in them
No I didn't. I've never heard of such a thing to be honest. Where do I have to take it to be done then? Surley not LANDROVER?! It will cost a packet. The fact that it works perfectly well some of the time - doesn't that mean that the blend motors 'know where they are going'?

Passenger side blend motor just controls temperature on that side within a few degrees of the drivers side, I think, from memory there is about a 6deg. allowable difference from the drivers side which is the "Master" setting. If you have spliced the new motor(s) into the existing loom using soldered/heat shrink joints that should be ok as the motor loading is fairly low, current wise.
As has also been posted, a common cause of intermittent fault display can be down to low refridgerant level in the system, get the level/pressures checked by an aircon specialist...Kwik Fit have been mentioned on here as a good,reasonably priced source.
Have a read through RAVE>Blend Motor replacement and you will see the requirement for re-calibration. Another advantage is that at the same time as calibration is carried out, the HEVAC faults can be read and cleared plus any "Hard" faults identified.

Anyone with Faultmate/Autologic/Test Book (Dealer) diagnostic system with the Valeo HEVAC module can do it either private owners or independant LR specialists. Takes around 15-20 mins. max. If anyone came to me it would cost them a tenner.
