Anyone needing to replace a height sensor will find there are two versions, one pre 97 and one post. The older one cost twice as much (or more depending on who you ask) than the later one!

Unfortunately I needed the older one, my car is a 97 but the vin is TA34 so it must have been one of the last ones to use the old geometry - because that's all it is. When you buy the correct sensor for pre VA cars they send you the same sensor as for later cars and a little bit of folded metal to use as a bracket. This bracket then compensates for the slightly different arms on the newer sensor.

I find it quite cheeky that they charge double to include the bracket but I guess its a sign of the times. In the old days I could imagine that they would supply the little bracket (must cost all of 6p!) regardless and mention on the packaging that its not needed on post VAxxx cars.

Anyway, if you drive an older car and can also do a bit of metal bending just get the newer sensor and make your own bracket. I didn't think to take measurements or pictures before I fitted mine but doubtless I'll be back under the car again sooner or later so I'll do so then and post back.
