The display for the temperature is faded all over, bits of it work, and with pressure applied other bits work. I tried passing a magnet over to realign to crystals but this had no effect at all. Is this mendable without replacing the unit?
Thanks

Dimmer?
if not then as said replace bulbs, unit need out for this, 5 bulbs in total now you're at it.
bulbs available in sets on fleabad etc.

Hi Tcubed,
If you you mean that all the numbers are readable but just dim, then yes, change bulbs.
But if you mean some of the pixels that form the numbers are missing then it is possible to repair it.
You say you put pressure on the display and some of the pixels came back, this is the your problem and can be an easy fix, I have fixed mine on both P38's I had/have.

All it is, is a small piece of silcone that sits at the base of the display and between the display ribbon wire, all that happens is it slips and releases the pressure hence lcd display not shows complete numbers.

I did do a topic a while ago 'fixed hevac unit' I am sure I explained it better on that thread.

any probs let me know and maybe I can help.

Thank you so much, I've just read your other thread and I think I understand. I'll give it a go and let you know how it goes!

Well I gave it a go; the bad news is it sadly hasn't worked - perhaps I didn't do the screws up tight enough (although they were pretty tight). The good news is it meant I could clean out the whole insides.

Thanks anyhow; good clear instructions.

OK, I'm thinking about getting a new head unit from eBay. Would it matter if I got a walnut one (as in would it fit?)? Mine's currently black plastic.

The solution to this problem ultimately turned out to be replacement of the unit. Exciting to know what temperature the car is at now though :p
