bugger......! seemed like a good car....!

had a starting problem a few days ago where after going shopping and waiting in the car for the missis to come back, tried to start but just kept turning over... got out, locked and alarm set....wait....unlock get in and it started...? alarm fault on dash...?

now.... when to goto work this morning and now it wont start at all....? turns over ok but not starting....?

RAC man came out while i was at work..(nicked the wifes car) and he played about with it for an hour of so....stuck his fault machine on it but being such an old rangie he didn't know what the fault code meant...?

RAC mans notes were:
fault code came up as P1178.
No ignition.
Possible crank shaft sensor.
no moment on rev counter while turning over
battery keep going flat.

The battery was a bit shagged so i just got a new battery and fitted it....

still turns over but no starting
alarm fault on dash now gone....!

HEEEELLLLPPPPPP....!!! please.....

Loss of sync between the BECM and the engine ECU, sounds like you need a syncmate from Blackbox Solutions or someone nearby with one.
I don't think it's a desync since on the GEMS version, starter do not run in that case (unlike BOSCH and Diesel version).

I'd check the crank sensor.

just noticed something....

before all this non starting happened, when i put the key in the ignition a message would come up, " key in ignition" or something like that and beep....
changed the battery for a new one...and now nothing....?

is this something to do with not starting....

My new 1995 p38 that ive only had for about two weeks died a few days ago.... and it was driving me mental trying to work out what was wrong...just would'nt start...turned over...spark at the plugs, fuel in the rail....!!

i had to go get a spare key even though i was wasn't starting and asked the fella on the RR parts counter if they had a mobile diagnostic service or something like that...the answer was no obviously but he did give me the details of a small local garage near me and he said that the bloke that runs it used to work for RR... got he number, RAC towed it to them.....they had it a day, full diagnostics done faults cleared ect ect.... new crankshaft sensor supplied and fitted and working like a dream.....£125....!!!!! i don't think that's a bad deal.... the chap really knows his stuff and i will be taking it there again if something crops up that i cant do.... and a nice bloke too....
