Most generic OBD readers should talk to the engine ECU. If there's issues with the k-line, maybe other wires on the ECU have issues such as sensor wires that might impact the fuel consumption ? If the Autel connected did you check sensor data ?

It can unlock the doors from the "Actuators" menu of the 27VT CCU. I haven't tried it with the ignition off though.

Check that the little wire from ignition switch to the starter solenoid is not live all the time due to ignition switch or wire fault.

I haven't checked continuity on pin 7 as yet. I was able to alter the idle revs to 820 or thereabouts but didn't go more into it (not my tool, borrowed from garage).

My experience of that vibration last year was a combination of propshaft AND VCU mount bearings. You may be able to detect which end of the propshafts, i.e. is it the VCU bearing(s) through the gear lever as you enter and pass through the rough...

yes most of the ECUs are on the same diagnostic line, so, even though the 16 pin socket is inside the passenger compartment you will be able to find the wire on the engine ECU and create your own 16 pin socket in the engine compartment. Very clever.
