I have just overhauled the carb and overall I am pleased with the result but think it can be better.

I can now go up a local incline in 4th gear when 3rd was needed before.

However a couple of issues the mixing screw does not make a differance whether all the way in or all the way out. If I take it out completly it does make a differance to the running of the engine.
I had to fit the old screw because the new one was cut off short on the taper and my old one is bent. I was disapointed with the overall quality of the kit. and did not fit the main jet from the kit because it had swarf in it.

Also when I stripped down the carb it had no O ring I am not sure how the new one fits ?
I am going to remove the carb again and do the lapping thing to remove any warpage.

So can anyone help with a better quality kit I can purchase.
And how the 'o' ring fits.

Thanks in advance

Tony

Found a great US article on the carb.

But still need to find a supplier of a good quality kit.

Thanks Tony

I found in these aftermarket kits that the "enrichment jet" (the tiny wee one next to the main jet) was by far too small, caused bad acceleration and difficult to adjust idle mix - just like yours, maybe try changing this jet back to the original 40 thou jet?

Also, the zenith carbs are prone to warping, here is a good article on how to rectify this problem-the end result was a by far better running engine!. hope this helps!, Jack.http://http://www.lrfaq.org/Series/FAQ.S.carb.zenith.fix.html

Dear Jackual
Thanks for the article it has good advice.

Still looking for a good supplier of the overhaul kits.

Regards Tony

Did you catch any of the SA v Lions games.

Forgot to mention about the "o" ring, it just slips over the stub of the venturi, when you have the carb in half. you can get a special tool to stretch them, but there quite east just to roll down the stub, they are essential also to the carb, as it will pull in air from the carb bowl with out it.

I think most of the kits out there are cheapo chinese copies, most of them are just packaged differently - could be wrong?

And Sorry no i didnt catch any of the Games!:(

best thin to do is to soak the thik in petrol the set it alight, when it goes out through it in the bin and buy a weber or su convertion
