Well I've read through pretty much every white smoke thread on here so have a couple of ideas of where to start. Coupla questions for those of greater knowledge though!

Its a disco 200tdi conversion that I've started up for the first time today, so stupid mistakes are quite possible! Symptoms are clouds of white smoke with a coupla misfires when revving. After giving her some revs today she's pretty clear on idle and running sweet but as soon as you rev her up there's clouds of smoke and a few misfires.
The lift pump priming handle is floppy so think its broken but when holding it in the right place I can feel the internals of the pump tapping it so I think its pumping ok... Would a knackered lift pump cause this though as surely the white smoke signifies too much fuel? Does anyone know if a 12J lift pump will fit and work on a 200tdi?

Prepared to swap the injectors and HG but is there a highly likely stupid thing I should check first?

Check your fuel lines tank to lift pump to filter to injector pump.
Lift pumps are **** and are almost a consumable item, ive changed both mine recently allmakes one from barry 4x4 on e bay 15 quid to the door.
Mates did the same was lumpy idle lack of power and smoke was crap piepwork that he thought would be fine, fell of in my hand!

ok lift pump swapped over, all fuel lines checked and re-tightened, filter checked and system bled. Checked air intake pipework and tidied it up, removed one bit that was collapsing under pressure. This has resulted in a fair bit of improvement.
The problem has now changed however :rolleyes:
On starting shes rough as anything and with no oomph for a couple of seconds after giving her some revs with clouds of white smoke. This is whether shes hot or cold but she runs fine once shes moving.
I'm thinking injectors and possibly timing? I think timing belt and head gasket are on the list for this weekend so hopefully that will help...
So any other ideas?
 
Pipe work will expand and not collapse under pressure, so if its collapsing youve got something blocked and its causing a vacuum, is there any old filters in the pick up main line, does the original fuel tank pick up have a filter on the end ie in the tank itself?
Sounds like you are on the right track i wouldnt blame the injectors or inj pump as they are tough old bits of kit.

Under vacuum would be more accurate lol. It was filter side of the turbo so the 'blockage' was just the resistance from the filter and intake pipework.
Checked the swirl pot on the tank which is all I am aware of that end and it was running nicely. When all this stupidity sorts itself out at the pumps I'll get some fresh fuel in her as she was stood for a fair while.
I'll update once the timing belt and HG are done and see whats left...
