Guys & Gals,

I ran a few searches and have come close but not close enough to finding a specific thread on analysis of driving a 7 seat Defender XS 110 around central London.

The function of the vehicle will be as a 'people carrier' from central London out to the neighbouring rural counties to get closer to mud and country sporting pursuits!

I love both the 90 and 110 and have been fortunate to drive both many moons ago out in the sticks. (Series III first car I ever drove prior). That said I'd really appreciate your kind input as to the practicalities of the ‘modern’ beast in the city centre?

Kind regards,

LM

I have a 110 CSW that I use round the cities with work. Manoeuvring is fine although can be a bit tiring if you have a heavy clutch. Biggest issue is car parks . If its a multi storey , which most are in cities, then you need to make sure they have at least a 2.1m clearance so a bit of prep is needed working out where to park. NCP usually say what the height limits on their car parks are on their website

First of all, have you checked if it is LEZ compliant? Handling wise you should have no problems at all on 99% of the roads in London, after all, they are quite a lot narrower than most vans and lorries. The only pain (literally) with them is the very heavy clutch, which in any town or city is not much fun. The only other problem I can think of with them may be parking. They may be similar in length to most vans, but their turning circle is crap.

Thank you very much guys! Very reassuring and useful to know.

I do believe the new XS is EU5 compliant for LEZ and I'm assuming JLR will tweak it for EU6 for 2014.

Thanks again,

LM

You do not want to be moving very large people very far !! Is it an image thing you need a h/d 4x4 ? A auto people mover eg galaxy , voyager would seem to be a more relevant choice ! JMHO
