X member change??

i cannot see it being any harder than doing a defender on
think he is refering to the body x-member, not the chassis one. time consuming but not difficult. chassis crossmember is even easier the defender! did my chassis crossmember after a hefty whack on the towbar made it all smiley!!

I came close, I wouldn't recommend changing the whole crossmember (can you even buy a complete one) When mine was rotten I took the bumper off & cut the top of the cross member between the door posts and then did the same with the under side of it and slid a length of 80x40 steel box section into the opening & welded new body mounts onto it. I did intend to weld the crossmember to the new box section, but me fooking welder packed up after half a doz tack welds. So I pop riveted the fooker in place held it together until I could flog it to some fat brummy tw*t.. :D
 
I shirked it before and just plated and put on new body mounts....looks like a pain in the arse to do the whole thing
What is the situation that leads you to need to replace it?
