I am totally confused.
Picked up cylinder head today from engineers - they cleaned it and sorted out thermostat housing sheared bolts - nothing more.
I've just checked the new injectors I bought fit into the housings, and they don't - they won't slide over the shoulder where the two washers fit at the bottom, even without the washers in place. Not only can't I get the new injectors to slide in, but also the old units won't go back in!
OK we are in Austria, and the garage temperature is only 2°c, and the head is in a room with about 18°c, but I honestly can't believe that the ambient temperature would make that much of a difference?

Any suggestions, because I am absolutely flummoxed!

Is it an alloy or cast iron head?

If you put the injectors into a freezer and keep the head warm you should be able to drop them in without any difficulty.

I did this with mine many moons ago and it worked!

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks seadog!

I've just tried a little test with silicon on the lower part of an old injector, and the shoulder. I was expecting the top part of the injector body (shoulder), where the 2 bolts secure it to the head to sit flush, but, the silicon has spread evenly in the shroud and inner shoulder - maybe I'm just expecting the outer surfaces to sit flush when they actually don't. I will try inserting the brass washer and steel washer and tightening everything up and see if if the new washers indicate a seal.
Could you possibly post a picture of your head with the injectors screwed down - I'm now wondering if the injector actually sits flush to the head or stands proud, but I don't seem to have a photo for reference.
By the way, it is a cast iron head.

And I've just put the head and all the new and old injectors outside on the terrace, temp is about zero degrees, so, I would expect at least the old injectors to drop straight in to their original position for testing the washer and sealing washer - I have 2 sets so it should not present a problem with using "used" washers.

No , the upper part of the injector will not be flush with the cylinder head - the has to be a gap for it to press onto the steel washer to seal. I'll take a snap tonight.

Apologies, I've been a bit under the weather this week - do you still need a snap of the injector where it meets the cylinder head?

Hi Zeaphod - also been ill - thanks for replying - I have now installed and tightened the injectors to the correct torque, together with the steel cup washer and brass washer - I'm sure everything is in order, so I reckon I will see if I have problems with starting before I need any visual clues. Get well soon.
