hi guys/girls got a 97 discovery petrol with possibly 2 separate faults.
car has mallory distributor intermotor coil no sign of ballast? or live feed when cranking only permanent 12v feed so runs
it has been lpg converted and runs fine on gas a petrol switches fine.
problems are coil overheats has only a 12v feed no aparent ballast resistor.
seems coil/distributor has a short because coil overheats severely, looks like neg side lies earthed when ignition is on car not running so coil burns out, also when running gets severely hot,has 2 black wires conected together on poss side one is permanent feed unsure what other wire does have seperated them and cranked over the smaller black wire does not seem to get live.
fault 2? car loses switching from distributor cuts out dead this is a very intermittent problem does it when it is stone cold mainly but will do it when warm as well
what i need to know is what wires originally go to coil as i am unsure what is original and should there be a balast resistor and if so is there a seperate poss feed when starting?
any help greatfully received
regards
