Series wing mirrors,

Were they all on the front wing if not when were they changed ?

Just found a pic of a series two with the round type mirrors on the doors and a series 3 with big ones on the front wings.:)

mine are on the door hinges but build date is 72 so i am guessing they aren't original.

i think the later ones came with them on the doors but i couldn't tell you when it happened

Sorry, just realised I'd put 3.6mm where a 4.8mm rivet should be...heart stopping moment!

Mirrors were round head ones on the wings of the series 3 until November 1977 when they moved to the door hinges. :)

Even though they moved to door hinges, the holes remained in the wings but they were fitted with a grommet

Thank you most helpfull:)

I got slagged off once for using metric bolts on a classic Mini. Wasn't even showing it, just had it on the club stand ffs does it matter:eek:

I'll stick some mirrors on my 90 wings then, now I know its not allowed:)

Yeah, I don't quite 'get' the whole correct nut, bolt and fixing thing.

If I was doing a nut & bolt restoration on a Healey 3000 to achieve top resale value or museum piece then maybe. A Landy? Nah

Been looking at pictures and it looks like some sixties landies had the mirrors on the bulkhead and rather than looking at them through the door window you would look at them through the windscreen.
Maybe just custom jobs for special applications.

my s1 has them mounted to the windscreen bit near the bolt that allows it to fold down onto the bonnet, but you still look thru the door. Unless i have them adjusted wrongly of course.

Now you'll see that this left hand drive series one from 1956 has them on the wings
Do the left hand drives have them positioned differently:)

I don't know about Series 1,2 &2a's. the info I posted earlier was just relating to Series 3' s as foud in the James Taylor Series 3 pec fixation guide. There are so many variations!

I think that the mirrors were placed in two different locations. I've looked at many recently and there doesn't seem to be any rules.

Wing or bulkhead on early vehicles and on door hinge on later models, I'll fit mine where they look best I think and sod tradition:)

don't know, mine has had them on the wings at some point, the holes on the windscreen look to be the way it was designed, can't tell from the pic if that s1 has the holes to allow fitting there.

btw i think the s1 windscreen design - the way it bolts on and folds - is much better than the s3, don't know why they changed it.

Just to add a bit of confusion, it depends on where the vehicle is/was...

My IIA 109 of 1964 vintage has original equipment hinges with holes for mounting miirrors - and at one time has rectangular (probably not original) mirror heads on the original arms.

Right now it has HUGE stainless-steel mirrors off a Ford F-350 dump truck on those mounts (I tow a caravan with it so needed the bigger mirrors).

Not sure if these hinges were part of the NADA spec or not.
