I had put in magnatec 10w40 like I do in my 3.9 but after about an hour of running when she really got up to temp my oil pressure started dropping dramatically at idle and the light came on. I switched her off and drained it and went and got some halfords classic for £17 which seems a bit steep for 20w50 mineral, put it in and its fine now with 45 psi at idle up until its been running for an hour and then it goes down to 25 psi at slow idle which is good apparently. it is a pre 76 engine in it.

I just thought I should now see what oil I can get as my stocks of 10w40 wont be any good for this one :doh:

you need 20 50..that is what old rangie engines where deisgned to run on...

use millners cos its good..sod the expense..you cant skimp on oil...ie i change mine on my toyota rangie every 3000miles.and the nissan rangie..the bikes every 1000miles...and thats full syn..(toyota only..overkill i know!).but i recon thats better than an engine rebuild..and i have never killed an engine...(touch wood)

re ebay oil..comma is ok..go comma site and check its specs..

yeah I agree on the changes, I do it every 3k in the v8 bmw which has 330 bhp and also in the 3.9 classic. shame the previois owner of the 3.9 didnt do it that often!

I will do my 72 that often too, well i changed it after about .2 of a mile this time lol expensive flush with magnatec :doh:

thing is might be better to use the comma and change it even more often as thats such a good price, it must be better than the old oil too!

anyone know the definative spec the original oil had to be for the pre 76 rover v8?

BTW there are two Comma 20/W50 oils, Classic and Sonic.

The Sonic is better as it has a higher ZDDP (Zinc Dithiophosphate) which is reckoned to be good for pushrod engines. It is usually cheaper anorl.

However, it is not so much better that you need change your oil again for it. Just wait 3000 miles.

have email the oil seller to see, the comma website recommends something completly different for the 72 so that didnt help alot lol
