Series 3 Will the plastic fan from a 2.5NA fit a 2.25 Diesel?

Will the white plastic fan used on a 2.5NA engine fit the water pump of a 2.25 diesel?

I am thinking it would be a beter option than the steel fan. A couple of teh blades on mine look bent out of balance.

My series 3 has a 2.5 na with a steel fan, in a similar condition to yours, so I would say yes. If you can you can swap one way you must be able to go the other way too. But I don't know if it will hit the rad shroud

i removed my fan completely and fitted an electric jobbie in front of the rad works well and only when needed

If you want to get one sooner, try online breakers. I ordered a fan and viscous coupling for my 90 when I got rid of the electric fans, think it was about 25 quid, arrived by courier a few days later.

Depends on the water pump. The NA engine has two types of fan which have slightly different bolt spacings. One bolts direct to the pump thru the pulley using 4 bolts, the other fits to a viscous unit (4 bolts) and the viscous unit screws onto the spigot of the water pump. If the steel one has 4 bolts the first one may fit.

Thanks for the diagrams. I see the non-viscous fan has a spacer in there as well. I will need to find one of them so the fan will be clear of the cowl. I have tthe cowl sitting in the workshop, but there isn't room to install it with the current fan position.

There's 4 setups overall. The non viscous has 2 setups, which use the same fan but have different pulleys. The standard alternator one has a spacer, the 65amp alternator doesn't.

The holes are 39-40mm apart, 8.5mm diameter. I have the pump, pulley, spacer and fan spare but can't currently find the fan or spacer.

I managed to source a four-bladed plastic fan and spacer.

I found out that the plastic fan with the spacer will fit in theory, but it is so close to the radiator that there is no way to tighten the bolts without removing the radiator.

The hole in the middle of the plastic fan is too small to fit over the boss in the centre of the series water pump flange without the spacer.

Now to get hold of a scrap water pump so that I can machine the flange into a thinner spacer.

I did manage to fit the NA fan with the self-made spacer. The engine seems to be running a couple of degrees cooler.
