Hi I am a new member to the forum and wondered if anyone can help me. I purchased a Range Rover Sports HSE 2.7cc 55 reg last year with full range rover service history ( from a reputable garage) but since then I have had nothing but trouble. I have had a new engine fitted - a new turbo - and had brackets holding the air conditioning have all snapped and need replacing. The car is so expensive now I cant really afford to loose it. However I now have a gear box problem

When I set off driving in auto mode there are no problems but if the rev drops eg on a gradient a message error appears on the dash ( F) stating limited gears available. I need to pull in stop, switch off and then when I start off again it is fine once more. ( mainly happens when towing )

Dont want to replace the gear box if not necessary but now hate driving the car.

Been to Land rover and had it on a diagnostic test and they have given me the fault code Gear 5 incorrect ratio and gear 6 incorrect ratio but the garage have not seen this problem before. Dont want to spend loads more money if not necessary but need to get this right. Can anyone help PLEASE

Welcome. I think I can see ya problem straight away- you only have a 2.7cc engine, most RRS's are supplied with a 2700cc engine. Hope this helps, if not then have a search in the Range Rover section.

Welcome, what weight are you towing? The range rover sport has a lower towing capacity than the standard range rover as it has different axle weight and chassis.

The newer range rovers have an "intelligent" towing system which is computer based. When tow bar fitted need be sure the software is updated and also that the vehicle is "aware" you are towing so to speak. It could be thinking there is a problem (if it isn't aware )when you go up hills and strain gets more. Just a thought.

I do know new bmw x5 has similar system and costs £3500 to do tow bar and computer updates. If you don't then get problems of similar nature.

Thanks for that. Weight not excessive - just normal caravan. Have spoken to gearbox specilaist and think I may need to go down the road of replacing this - very reluctantly though
